November 2020 Newsletter

Firstly, we would like to welcome back the children and families who have returned from the half-term break!
We have had a great Month last month celebrating a range of festivals and activities, a big thank you to all the children and staff that dressed up for Halloween! 😊
This November our Teenies Moon/Mini Moons will be starting the festive season early! We will be encouraging both children and staff to get into the Christmas spirit by taking part in a variety of activities, games and singing Christmas carols. The Teenies Moon/Mini Moons will also be celebrating upcoming events such as ‘sandwich day’ and ‘Guy Fawkes Night’. The Teenies Moons/ Mini Moons will be able to make sandwiches or their very own and listen to short stories about ‘Guy Fawkes Night’.

Our Full Moons have transformed their science area into a space station for the children to explore!
The children we be taking part in various science experiments and activities related to space. They will be learning about different planets and astronomy. This includes objects the children can see with the naked eye, such as the sun, the moon, the planets and stars. Clare, Tarika and Shaima have turned the home corner into a hospital with the children’s help and will be learning about how we take care of each other.

New staff
We are delighted to introduce you to Ourdia. Ourdia has many years of experience working within the early years sector. She is joining our Teenies Moons/Mini Moons and cannot wait to share her ideas.
Autumn reports for children
This month parents will be able to discuss their child’s learning and development progress with their child’s key person. This term the meetings will be held virtually on the 10th and 12th of November, if parents could please email the nursery manager with a preferred time from the attached time table, we will be able to book you in for a meeting. The virtual meeting is not compulsory if you do not wish to attend. However, all parents will receive a copy of their child’s progress report via the blossom app and if your child has not attended for a term, a baseline report will be sent to you. :)

New intercom system
We are happy to announce that we have a new intercom system that has been put in place. This system is now up and running effectively.  Unfortunately, parents are still unable to enter the nursery during drop offs and when collecting their children at the end of the day. Physical distancing should be maintained when at the main entrance to minimize the contact between other parents.

Little Dorrit Park and Peace Garden
Southwark Council wants your views to shape improvements to Little Dorrit Park and Peace Garden SE1. Please fill out the online questionnaire to tell us how the Park could be improved and what you would like to see there: environment-leisure/little-dorritt-playground/

Flu nasal spray
If your child is due to have the flu nasal spray, please can you let nursery know. Unfortunately, this vaccine (nasal spray) has a number of side effects with one of them being a high temperature. Public Health England has issued guidance regarding children who have been given routine immunisations as many experiences a fever for a couple of days. This is perfectly normal but if they do react in this way, parents must keep their child off until their temperature is back to normal. Then as long as they have no other COVID-19 symptoms they can return to nursery.

Gentle reminders
· Please line up behind the white markings on the floor and not directly in front of the door or in the road so staff members are aware of which parent has come to collect their child first.

· Please ensure you bring your child’s belongings in plastic, wipeable bags only and not fabric bags, so staff can wipe these down before placing them onto the children’s pegs. Thank you!
