Welcome back and a Happy New Year to you all! I hope you managed to have a restful break and are eagerly looking forward to the next term. The children have settled back into their routines well and it has been lovely to see such enthusiasm for learning when I have visited the rooms this week.
We know that some of our families have been affected by Covid over Christmas and rising cases nationally are a concern. Please be reassured that we will continue to do everything we can to keep children, families and staff safe. If your child tests positive please email email@example.com as soon as possible, providing a copy of the test results. Clarification on the changes to the self-isolation period for individuals who test positive for COVID-19 Since Wednesday 22 December, the 10-day self-isolation period for people who record a positive PCR test result for COVID-19 has been reduced to 7 days in most circumstances, unless you cannot test for any reason.
Individuals may now take LFD tests on day 6 and day 7 of their self-isolation period. Those who receive two negative test results are no longer required to complete 10 full days of self-isolation. The first test must be taken no earlier than day 6 of the self-isolation period and tests must be taken 24 hours apart. This also applies to children under 5, with LFD testing at parental or guardian discretion. If both these test results are negative, and you do not have a high temperature, you may end your self-isolation after the second negative test result and return to your education or childcare setting from day 8. Anyone who is unable to take LFD tests will need to complete the full 10-day period of self-isolation.
We would like to welcome Joy, our Early Years Professional who has joined the Baby Moons room. Joy is excited to share all her years of baby experience with the team and introduce the babies to new sensory activities.
Please could I remind parents that breakfast is served until 8.30am and the cut off time to bring your child in for the morning session is 10am.
This month we have been making lots of changes to our Baby Moons room. We have purchased new tummy time toys for our Baby Moons to help develop the muscles in their bodies, as well as improve their balance and coordination. Our Baby Moons have shown great focus in the various stimuli around them, turning, rolling and reaching out to explore the various objects. Our older babies in the room continue to work on their sensory play, exploring various textures and colours through the use of sensory bags, bottles, sand and water play, and painting activities. It is so much fun learning through play!
This month our children have shown an interest in Transport. We have been extending their learning by providing them with rich learning opportunities both indoors and outdoors. Our Teenies have enjoyed looking at books, going on Transport walks, participating in messy and sensory play activities such as Transport printing using paints and playdough to create marks. We have purchased new wooden Transport for our Teenies to play imaginatively with and they have shown great turn taking skills with support from the Early Years Professionals in the room. We have also looked at shape, size and colour. The children have learnt the name of all the various Transport we use and see.
In the Full Moons room, the children have been exploring ‘’numbers’’ and attempting to write out their chosen numbers on interactive and whiteboards. The children have been excitedly using their own imaginations to recreate collages, whilst having discussions about ‘things that make me happy/ thankful for’. Whilst out in the local community the children actively spoke about the world around them which also led to the children drawing out their ‘Journey to Nursery’. The children have been developing their fine motor/ manipulative skills in the form of cutting magazines using scissors.
